This year we welcome Mitch and his family to the "spotlight". Mitch has been a staple every year at the Classic and through his amazing photography skills has been able to capture the moments for us all to reflect on and smile.

Please welcome Mitch, wife Heidi and their children Evan (19), Hailey (17) and Mathew (14)

After graduating from Rollins in 1992, Mitch continued working in the Orlando area in radio and television performing daily traffic reports, being a Rock music station DJ, calling Rollins baseball and basketball games on CableVison of Central Florida while hosting a daily sports call-in show on the local CNN affiliate. He also worked as a DJ at multiple locations of JD Penguins nightclubs in the area.

In 1993, Mitch left Orlando to work in the insurance business with Miami based American Bankers Insurance Group. This is where he and his wife Heidi, of soon to be 21 years, met and began their cross-country relocations for the next few years. The pair relocated to Baltimore and then Dallas with this company. All the while Heidi continued as a travel planner for corporate clients during each move. In 1996 Mitch took an opportunity in Scottsdale, Arizona with a short-lived insurance start-up company that lasted six months and ultimately spent a year there before relocating again to join Transamerica Life Insurance Company in Los Angeles. The couple enjoyed spending three years in Los Angeles during which time their first child Evan was born in 1999.

In late 1999, Mitch, his father and a long-time business partner discussed starting a new company in an insurance niche that Mitch had spent the last several years developing. With one-year old Evan in tow, the three moved from LA to Baltimore to start Mitch’s first company, Select Benefits Insurance Group. Fast forwarding 18 years later, Mitch and Evan have launched a retail business venture together in September 2017 named Culture Lab which sell pop culture items such as comics, t-shirts, hats, collectibles, and more that is located near their home in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Over the years while building his insurance business Mitch and Heidi welcomed daughter Hailey (almost 17) and son Matthew (14) to the family. In the years since the family has added three dogs, three rabbits and guinea pig to the household. While Evan is managing the new business, Hailey works part-time and attends high school while Matthew is a drummer and will move to the high school for the upcoming school year joining his sister who will be a Senior. In September 2017, Mitch sold his two insurance businesses to a national company and continues on as a Managing Partner.

In his spare time, Mitch still plays baseball in a Men’s Over 40 wood bat league each Spring and Summer. He also is a sports and wildlife photographer and co-host of the podcast “Where’s Art” with legendary wildlife and travel photographer Art Wolfe. Mitch’s professional photography includes Major League Baseball, NFL, PGA, LPGA, and Le Mans racing. His images appear regularly in national magazines such as Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine and many others. As his photography work evolved, he began shooting landscapes, travel and wildlife. Mitch’s various projects have taken him to unique locations around the world including Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Alaska, Cuba, Zambia, Italy, Croatia, France, Monaco and Spain to name a few. Over the next year he will be heading to the jungles of Brazil to photograph jaguars and later to Japan to capture images of the famous snow monkeys in Hokkaido. As Mitch’s kids get a bit older and more independent, he and Heidi have been able to get away more and look forward to globe hopping together for many years to come.
